In mid 1955 a decision was taken by the Hall Management Committee to form a bowling
section, the management committee to be responsible for the capital cost - The bowling section to pay a token rent of £8 per annum. On October 29th 1955, a postal order for 2/3d (two shillings and three pence in old money) was sent to the Playing Fields Association for plans showing how to build a bowling green!

In September 1956, the Hall Management Committee ran an Autumn Fair which raised the massive sum of £400 towards the costs of the green. A request for a grant was made to the National Playing Fields Association who queried the size of 45 yards x 33 yards and wanted to know whether it conformed to standards. Enquiries were made and it was found that there were no standards. A grant was received of £100, the actual cost was £696.12.0. ( Six Hundred & Ninety six pounds, twelve shillings)
Waterhouses Nursery of Radway Green, did the preparation and seeding and a fence was erected. The Bowling Green was completed for its opening ceremony on April 4th 1959. The first club rules were quite similar to our present rules, the first subscription was £0.15.0d ( fifteen shillings) which works out at 75 pence in today's money.
Over the years the Bowling Club has been improved by the addition of a pavilion and a shelter, seats surrounding the green, a high hedge has replaced the fence and it is maintained to a very high level. Improvements are an ongoing task financed by membership subscriptions and fund raising activities.

Friendly matches are arranged with other clubs both at home and away and are always well attended. If you are feeling very competitive, there are also league matches for you to take part in if you wish. We play in three local leagues, The Sandbach & District Bowling League, The Crewe & Nantwich Retired Bowlers League
and the Mid- To play in these leagues you have to be registered to play at the start of the season and have to be registered with the C.C.B.A. and the B.C.G.B.A. but we can easily do that for you.
